In the faraway land of Duloc, a heartless ruler, the midget Lord Farquaad, seeks to banish all the fairy tales from the land so it can be as boring as he is--but three characters stand in the way of his design: a green, smelly ogre with a heart of gold named Shrek; his faithful steed, a donkey, who will do anything but shut up; and the beautiful but tough Princess Fiona, whom Lord Farquaad wishes to make his wife so he can become King of Duloc.

Right after Shrek and Princess Fiona's honeymoon, the newly wed couple goes to Princess Fiona's parents for dinner. When a Fairy Godmother discovers Fiona and Shrek are married she reminds the king about a deal they agreed on years ago, that Fiona should have married her son, who happens to be Prince Charming. The King then hires a cat named Puss-in-Boots, a sword fighting cat and ogre slayer, to kill Shrek.

Follow Shrek's daring quest to rescue feisty Princess Fiona, with the help of his lovable loudmouthed Donkey, and win back the deed to his beloved swamp from scheming Lord Farquaad.
